Emersonisms: Three in one night

A few weeks ago, on a Friday evening (10/21), we had to run over to Carrboro and pick up my volunteer packet for the Get Heeled 5K.  Emerson was in rare form that night, so I thought I would jot down a few of the stories...

Car Seat Dancing
Danny and Emerson picked me up at home, when I got in the car, one of Emerson's favorite songs was playing and she was full-on car seat dancing.  We started the song over so I could get her "cool moves" on video.  We then listened to the song at least 6 more times!!!  Enjoy the video below...

Wedding
A little back story: There is a running joke between the Hermans and the Devers about our wedding days.  Dale Herman, who was a good family friend when Danny and I got married, was invited to our wedding.  Unfortunately, the same day, he had another wedding he was part of and had to decline his invite to our wedding.  My parents were invited to Dale and Amy's wedding, but since (at the time) Dale was closer to my dad than me, I was not invited.  Dale always jokes about how beautiful our wedding day was and how it was the best wedding he had ever been to...he wasn't there!  He also jokes about how he got us the greatest gift...he didn't get us a present!  And, we do the same with him about his wedding day...even though we weren't in attendance due to the lack of an invite!! :)

Anyway, that night, we took the route through campus to get to Carrboro.  (Since I'm not working on campus anymore, I always try to drive through it any chance I get!)  We passed a wedding party getting their pictures taken at the Old Well, which immediately got Emerson's attention. She loves weddings and thought the bride looked beautiful.  As we came up to the Carolina Inn the conversation went like this:

Emerson: Look, Mommy and Daddy, that's where you got married!!!  (we've pointed this out to her before and attended several events with her there, so she is familiar with the Inn)

Me: Yep, that's where Daddy and I got married...isn't it beautiful!

After some more chit chat about my dress and other details...
Emerson: Where did Miss Amy get married?

Me: Actually, we just passed where they got married.  It was a building near the Old Well.

Emerson: Oh, did you guys go?

Danny and I both looked at each and smirked!!
Me: (with a giggle) NO, we weren't invited!

Emerson: How were you not invited, you are Amy's best friend.

Probably more of an inside joke for the Hermans and Devers to enjoy but I didn't want to forget it!  Now maybe Emerson can join in on the wedding day banter!!

Tomato Soup
Even though we haven't had horribly cold weather yet, one of our staple winter meals of grilled cheese and tomato soup has already made a few appearances this fall.  Emerson claims she loves tomato soup, but never eats as much as I think she will.  After picking up the packet, we headed to dinner where I ordered Tomato Bisque.  Emerson sitting next to me, asked for a bite of my soup....and then another one, and then another one, and then sure enough, half the bowl was gone!

Emerson: Mommy, this restaurant's tomato soup is SOOO much better than yours.

Thanks, Emerson!  I'm pretty sure the fresh pureed tomatoes with heavy cream and organic spices is much better than my Campbell's Tomato Soup out of the can, made with skim milk.  Who knew my four-year-old's palette would be so mature.  I guess this isn't going to cut-it in our house anymore!!

Emersonisms: Lunchables

Tonight, as Emerson was eating her Lunchables (Yeah, I know I'm winning mom-of-the-year for that one.  But really, when your child will eat the entire thing, when on most night she will only eat three bites, then a Lunchables occasionally, especially when she asks for it, is fine.  Right?).  Anyways back to the story, tonight when Emerson was eating her Lunchables, the following conversation ensued:

Emerson: I don't want my cheese.  (as she puts a piece in her mouth)
Me: You don't?  That's the best part.
Danny: I like the crackers, they're my favorite
Emerson: You wanna know my favorite part, Daddy?
Danny: What's your favorite part?
Emerson: The pudding!!

Smart Girl!!  She's definitely her mother's child and gets her love of chocolate from me.

Emersonisms: Learning from her mistakes

July 4th was a pretty lazy day in the Dever household.  I'm not sure Emerson and I changed out of our pajamas all day, and Danny only did because he had to catch a 7:00 pm flight to Jacksonville.  We did a few projects around the house and I tried to find things to keep Emerson busy so boredom wouldn't set in.  One of the activities she worked on was cutting.  In Emerson's pre-school class last year, her teacher, Mrs. Tara would attach paper on an easel, draw varying lines and have the kids use safety scissors to cut the paper.  I thought this would be a fun afternoon activity since she hadn't practiced cutting paper in awhile.
Emerson completed the cutting project and moved onto something else.  I think she was occupied with coloring on the dry erase board while I was focusing on the computer and birthday planning; Danny was in our room packing for his trip.  At some point, I heard the words (in a soft, stunned voice), "Mommy, I just cut my hair."  My heart instantly sank and then began to beat really fast.  I immediately jumped up from the computer and was in a squatting position next to Emerson in record time. "Oh no, Emerson, what did you do?" is what came out of my mouth, while "Oh Dear Lord please let her have only cut off a few pieces and please let it not be near her face.  I really don't want to take her to my $80.00 per haircut hairdresser to fix bad bangs!!" went through my mind.  And then I saw the clump of hair lying on the floor and Emerson pointed to the back of her head.  Whew, at least it wasn't bangs, but it was a CLUMP of hair and a very blunt cut.  Emerson knew she had done something wrong and I could tell this was going to be a time where good parenting and learning needed to come in.  No reason to get upset with her, she had scolded herself enough internally.
The Not-So-Safety Scissors

The infamous CLUMP
By then Danny made out of our room and we were all sitting on the floor, well Emerson was sitting in my lap, her head burrowed in my chest (as I was inspecting the damage).  Danny told Emerson a story about when he was five years old; he also cut his hair - right on the front of his head - the day before his dad was supposed to come into his class and cut his hair in front of the class.  They were learning about the letter H!!  From the story he told, Papa (a barber at the time) was not very happy.  After hearing this story Emerson was a bit scared she might get in trouble, too.  We explained to her that you learn from your mistakes and this was certainly a learning experience, and while we weren't mad, we wanted her to understand that she made a mistake.

Quick side note: As Danny went to pick up the hair and throw it away, I screamed out, "Don't touch that; I have to write a blog about this and need a picture!!"  (you know you blog too much when....)

Here are some pictures of the infamous haircut:
(right after the cut and not blended in with the rest of her hair at all)

Learning lessons and teaching moments
(I promise, one day you'll see our bed actually made!!)

Love this silhouette shot!

So sad about her "mistake".....
...but a big hug from Daddy makes it all better!!
The next morning, Emerson woke up and immediately asked if her hair had grown back yet.   Unfortunately, no magical fairy came in the middle of the night and waived her magic wand to make her hair grow back.  A few days later, I was telling my mom about the whole hair incident and she asked Emerson, "Have you told your Papa yet?".   To which Emerson replied, "No, Mimi, and I'm not going to, it's a secret."  Emerson does not want her Papa to know so Danny and I have been sworn to secrecy.  Little does she know I'm writing a blog about it.  One day she'll appreciate it, but for now, I will continue letting her believe I'm keeping her secret.  She's still upset about it.  The good thing about the whole incident, Emerson did a pretty good job layering one side of her hair and it blends in pretty well, especially after it was washed.  Papa, maybe one day she'll follow in your footsteps; or maybe she traumatized herself enough not to ever cut hair again!!

This Requires Words Wednesday: Emerson's Pregnancy

Saturday night during our Bon Voyage cook-out, the kids were all playing in the Herman's living room.  I was in the kitchen doing something and Stuart walked in, motioned to the living room and said, "Have you seen your daughter?"  Umm, no!  I hadn't seen her in awhile but wasn't worried....should I be?  I went to the  doorway of the living room and found this.....
Yeah, that's right!!  That's my daughter, lying on the Herman's coffee table, legs propped up, baby doll stuffed in her shirt and a blanket over her legs like she's getting ready to pop out the next Mattel doll.  Seriously?  Where in the world do kids learn this stuff.  I'm pretty sure the Disney channel isn't running reruns of birthing class videos and I know I don't let Emerson watch any shows that would ever teach you how a baby was born.  So how does she know you actually lie down to give birth?  Is it instinctive?  Whatever it is, it was a crazy sight to see.  I'm pretty sure I don't want to see my daughter in thirteen years being featured on MTV's 16 and Pregnant. The best part is Ivie was right there next to her playing nurse (see below)!!  And then of course it was her turn to hop on the table and Emerson was the nurse.  I realize little girls love to play Mommy, but who thought birthing would become an aspect of play.  If only they knew birthing the baby isn't that much fun!!!

Emersonisms: Talking Back

I'm sure it's hard for some of you to believe, but Emerson isn't the sweet, angel we've talked about in blog posts past.  We never really had the "terrible twos" with her, but we knew the so-called "terrible threes" were right around the corner.  We saw glimpses of it here and there, but just recently we are seeing it on a daily, hourly, by-the-minute basis.  Let's just say Emerson has become, ahem, difficult (for lack-of-a-better-term).  Danny and I realize this is just a phase, but it sure is a hard one and we hope it passes SOON!!!

Here are some great examples of Emerson's recent talking back moments:  (realize sometimes, even in the heat-of-the-moment, it's hard not to break out into laughter or a grin).

MOTHER
After several back-and-forths about some issue and Emerson finally saying something she shouldn't have said or saying it in a way she shouldn't have said (I honestly don't remember what the situation was).

Me: Emerson, we don't talk to people like that.
Emerson: Well mommy you aren't people, you're my mother.

How does the saying go, folks.....I'm your mother; I brought you into this world and I can take you out!! I refrained, but I sure thought it!!

ICE CREAM
Danny: Emerson, you had a few bites of ice cream at lunch and you just had a popcicle, so we probably aren't going to have anymore ice cream tonight.
Emerson: Well, Daddy if you don't get me any ice cream I'm taking all your stuff away.
Me (chiming in): Oh really, what are you going to take away?
Emerson: I'll take your bed away and Daddy's suitcase away

Danny and I couldn't hold it in....we burst out laughing!

A MILLION DOLLARS
During a moment when we were trying to reason with her.

Emerson: But Daddy I want too!!  (not sure what she wanted to do or what she wanted)
Danny: Well Emerson, I want a million dollars but I can't have it.  You don't always get what you want.
Emerson: Daddy, here you go! (holding out her hand like she is handing him money)
Danny: This isn't real money...
Emerson: Well, I've got real money in my piggy bank upstairs!

We should have known....no reasoning here!!

I'll keep jotting these down...and I'm sure we'll have a part two to this blog soon.  At the rate we're going, it might be by tomorrow night!!

Emersonisms: One Hundred Years...

Emerson is infatuated with babies, INFATUATED.  So the recent addition of our new neighbor, Mr. Bryce, has really got her in a tizzy.  I think she asks about, says his name, requests to see him, and/or tells me a story about him (usually it involves the repeat edition of how she held him in the hospital) at least three times a day.  I can completely understand, who doesn't love a snuggly baby.  I'm guilty of certainly wanting to take Bryce out of Amy's hands to "help her out", code for "give me that baby, I want to hold it!!"  (Just Kidding, Amy....you know I am here to help in any way, shape or form and it's a huge bonus if help involves holding Bryce!!)  Emerson's been talking about babies a lot!  Where they come from?  How they get here?  Where to buy them?  How they are asleep and then wake up!  The fact they come out of mommies and are very dirty (thanks for that one, Mimi!).   So, needless-to-say, we are all about some babies in the Dever household...and yes, I get asked at least twice a week, when she's going to get her own baby sister or brother (well, it's really just sister but I've tried to convey to her that God chooses what Mommy's have and there is no way to predict what he will choose for each Mommy.)  So on the way to school this morning, Emerson and I had this conversation:

Emerson: Mommy, I think Ms. Amy really likes Bryce.
Me: Emerson, she doesn't just like Bryce, she LOVES Bryce.  All Mommies love their babies.  There is something very special about a Mommy and her baby.
Emerson: Well Mommy, when you have a husband and your belly is full and the baby sleeps for one hundred years and then it wakes up and when it wakes up, then it comes out.  (Sorry for the run-on sentence, but she literally didn't take a breath.)
Me: One Hundred years?  That's a long time!!
Emerson: Yeah, you're right...it's more like a year they are asleep.

Oh Emerson, let's not make it any longer than it has to be!!

Emersonisms: Spider Veins

Taken from a post my mom put on Facebook of her conversation with Emerson a few weeks ago when she was watching her:

Yesterday as I was painting Emerson's toenails she suddenly reached to the bottom of my leg and said, "Mimi, you need  to get that skin off."  I said, "I don't see any skin" but immediately saw what I thought she was talking about.  I pointed to a "small spider vein" and asked her if that was what she was talking about.  She said, "Yes".  I told her that some people get those when they get old.  She said, "Mimi, I don't want to get old and get those."  My silent thought was, NEITHER DO I EMERSON, NEITHER DO I!!!

Emersonisms: The Royal Wedding

It's wedding week here at the Dever household.  Danny and I celebrated our nine year anniversary yesterday and Emerson and I have been on Royal Wedding watch all week.  I was three years old when Princess Diana married Prince Charles.  I remember watching the wedding and falling in love with the grandeur.  Maybe that's why I wanted to be an event planner or wanted to have a fairytale wedding (which I did).  So, it was only fitting that my little princess, who is princess crazy right now, should watch this royal and historical event.

Emerson and I have watched wedding coverage all week on the morning shows.  This morning, among other conversations, we had this brief conversation:

Emerson: Mommy, why is that girl in a carriage? (referring to Princess Diana)
Me: Well, she's a princess and they get to ride in carriages.  Kinda like Cinderella
Emerson: Oh, but why?
Me: It's just how the royals roll over there in Britain.  They have carriages that take them around for special events.
Emerson: Well, Mommy, over here we roll in our cars.

Oh, she's so wise beyond her years and constantly keeps me laughing.

Emersonisms: Money doesn't grow on trees

I feel pretty fortunate that I get to eat lunch with Emerson three times a week.  Usually during lunch we have conversations about school, friends, swimming, dance, and all that's going on in her pretty little head!!  This past week we reminisced about our recent trip to Disney!!

Emerson: Mommy, I want to go back and see Mickey!!

Me: But we just saw Mickey.

Emerson: I know that but I want to see him at the hotel again

Me: Well we might go back but it might not be anytime soon.  It costs A LOT of money to see Mickey!

Emerson: Do you have a lot of money?

Me: No, I just spent it all seeing Mickey with you!!

Emerson: Well, you can get some more! (with her hands on her hips and shaking her head up and down)

Me: It's not that easy to get more money.

Emerson: Yes it is!  (still shaking her head)

Me: Really?  Where can I get more?

Emerson: At the money store...you just go in and get it!

Me: Wow, where is this money store?

Emerson: Mommy, it's a really long way from here!

Oh, Emerson, you are so wise beyond your years....you are completely right....the money store is a REALLY long way from here!!!  Keep dreaming, though!!

Emersonisms: Crying at movies

I am, certainly, a big sap...especially when it comes to movies!!  I cry at the drop of a hat.  Well, it looks like Emerson has gotten this quality from me.  Right now, we are sitting here watching Lilo & Stitch and during the part when the social worker tells Nani that he is going to take Lilo away the next morning, I look over and Emerson is crying.  Real tears!  It was so sad and cute all at the same time!!  Looks like our 3 year old is really getting in touch with her emotional side (and not the side that throws her body on the floor during a tantrum - wink!).

Emersonisms: Caught off guard

As Moms, we don't always have the right answers, especially when we get caught off guard with questions;  such is the conversation I had with Emerson on the way home from school last Wednesday!!

Usually on December 1st of each year, my radio station automatically gets tuned to holiday music and stays put until the end of Christmas.  So, everyday on the way home from school, Emerson and I belt out holiday music. Last week's tune was Away In A Manger, to which the following lyrics prompted the subsequent conversation.

Away in a Manager Lyrics

Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray

Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there

Conversation that proceeded the end of the song:

Emerson: (in a whimpering voice) Mommy, I don't want to go to heaven!
Me: Emerson, everyone goes to heaven (we hope!).
Emerson: OH!! Mommy, I want to go to heaven
Me: Well, I want you to go to, but not for a long time.  You don't go to heaven until you die
Emerson: Mommy, I don't want to die!! (more whimpering voice)
Me: I know honey, I don't want you to either.  Most people don't die until they are very old.
Emerson: (whimper is almost a cry) But Mommy, Hogan is very old. I don't want him to die!!
Me: One day he will die, but he isn't going to die soon.
Emerson: (Full on cry, tears and all) Mommy, I don't want my puppy to die.  I want a new puppy if he dies.  He can't go to Heaven.  Hogan, HOGAN!!!  You can't die!!
What's a mom to do at this point....
Me: Emerson, Hogan isn't going to die anytime soon.  We will be very sad if and when he does die, but he will go to Heaven.
Emerson: Okay Mommy, but when he goes to Heaven, can I get a new puppy??

Poor Hogan, first she's screaming that he is going to die and then she's wishing for a new puppy!

Keeping up with the Hermans

Emerson is very fond of Ivie and Macie's playground.  She mentions it at least once a day.  We try not to intrude on their playground time TOO much, but when we do, Emerson walks away very excited about playing and talks about it for days.  For the entire time they've had their playground, Emerson was pretty content with it being THEIR playground.  But recently, Emerson has begun mentioning that she would like her OWN playground.  Today, on the way home from school, Emerson and I had a conversation about said playground:

Emerson:  Mommy, can we play on Ivie's swing set when we get home?
Me: Emerson, I'm not sure if Ivie will be outside later so I don't know.
Emerson: Ivie's swing set has a slide and swings.  Mommy, I don't have a swing set. (with a very sad tone in her voice)
Me: No, Emerson you don't have one, but you do have a very cool sandbox.
Emerson: I do!!  I have a sandbox.  Mommy, when I get my swing set (not sure how she got this in her head) I want it to have two swings; one for you, one for Daddy, and one for me.  Mommy, I also want a slide and and jungle "gyn".  I don't need a sandbox, I already have that.
Me:  Wow, Emerson that's a lot.  So you want one just like Ivie's?
Emerson: Yes, just like Ivie's, but Mommy, maybe we make mine bigger!

Ahh, already trying to keep up with the Joneses at such a young age!!

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

We started our Easter Weekend Festivities on Saturday with a trip to The Carolina Inn to have breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Mimi, Grammy, Papa, and Ms. Betsy joined us for the fun.  The Carolina Inn had a great breakfast set-up.  As an event planner, I loved the attention they gave to the kids, by giving them their own toddler sized buffet.  Emerson had a great time being the center of attention by all her favorite adults.  Emerson was a bit timid at the first sight of the Easter Bunny, but her curiosity was quickly peaked when she saw a basket full of eggs for him to give out.  She wanted her Daddy to sit with the Easter Bunny first, and then decided to take her own picture with him.  After breakfast, we toured the Inn, checked out the Birdhouses on Display, and showed Emerson where Mommy and Daddy got married.

Quick Emersonism:  Friday night, while I was putting Emerson to bed, I informed her we were going to have breakfast at the Carolina Inn the next morning.  I told her the Carolina Inn was where Mommy and Daddy got married.  "Married?" she giggled.  I said, "Yes, Mommy and Daddy got married there".  "Mommy?" she said, "I'm going to get married there to!!"  To which I QUICKLY replied, "You'll have to talk to your Daddy about that one!"

Hair Twirling
Recently Danny and I have been harping on Emerson and her hair twirling.  We've tried everything but nothing seems to be working; I think we just have a hair twirler on our hands (no pun intended)!  One of our tactics was to tell Emerson that if she keeps twirling her hair, it will all fall out and she will be bald like her Papa.  Last Sunday, while at dinner, Emerson spotted an older gentleman seated close by and she quickly pointed out, "Look Mommy, Look Mommy that man must have twirled his hair!" You guessed it, the man was bald.  Even if it's not working, at least we know she hears what we are saying!!

I'm Busy
Yesterday, we went to breakfast with Danny's parents (Grammy and Papa).  Grammy and Emerson were involved in a conversation counting Grammy's fingers (we're working on counting right now); very serious stuff!  Papa interrupted Emerson to ask a question of his own, to which she replied with her hand held high in the "stop" position, finger pointed up, with lots of sass in her voice:

"Papa, wait a minute, I'm busy!"

Don't ever interrupt a girl and her counting!!!

Emersonisms

Taking a quick break from my Disney blog posts, I thought I would post some cute Emersonisms from our drive home from daycare this afternoon.

Rockin' Out
I guess since it was Friday, and it was a long work week (even though it was only four days), I was rockin' out on the way to daycare this afternoon.  I tend to blare the music and sing really loud when I am by myself; it is a good stress reliever.  When we got in the car, Emerson asked if I would turn on some music.  I had quickly forgotten about my aforementioned rock out session and when I went to find a station, there was a small pause of silence and then, the music blared.  Emerson said, "Mommy, that music is really higher."  (meaning, it's too loud!) I turned the music down and said, "Sorry Emerson, Mommy was rockin' out on the way to get you."  "Rockin' out?" she asked.  I then proceeded to teach my 2 1/2 year old how to rock out, mommy-style.  With hands in the air and heads bobbing back and forth, Emerson and I rocked out the rest of the way home.

I love you THIS MUCH
Emerson always asks about her Daddy on the way home.  Usually it ends in me telling Emerson that her Daddy is at work and will meet us at home.  She asked about her Daddy again on the way home today and I, again, told her he was at work and would be home soon.  I also told her that Daddy had to work tomorrow morning and that we were going to get to spend some time together.  Our conversation went like this:

Me:  Emerson, Daddy has to work tomorrow morning so it is just and me tomorrow for a bit.  What do you want to do?  Do you want to go to the museum?  We can play with your toys, and kitchen and we can go eat lunch somewhere if you want to.
Emerson: Mommy, you love me?
Me: I love you very much Emerson Dever.  I love you THIS much.  (with my arms spread wide open)
Do you love me Emerson?
Emerson: Yes I do Mommy!
Me: How much do you love me?
Emerson: I love you THIS much, Mommy! (with her arms spread wide open)
Me: How much do you love your Daddy, Emerson?
Emerson: Mommy, I love Daddy TOO much!

Yes, Emerson, you are certainly a Daddy's girl!!!

Ready for Santa...

Today, while Emerson was napping, Danny and I finished putting up our outside Christmas decorations.  When Emerson woke up, we took her outside and showed her what we had accomplished while she was asleep.  Danny explained to Emerson that we had decorated the house to get ready for Santa Claus to come visit us.  He explained that we had to make it "pretty" for him.

Side Note:  Occassionally (more like all the time) Hogan will bark at things outside, and will always bark if someone is here or in the driveway.  Emerson will frequently ask if someone is here.  "Is my daddy home?" "Are my Mimi and Birdie here?"  "Is that my Grammy and Papa coming to visit?"

We came inside after looking at the decorations.  Emerson was busy playing with her toys when Hogan began barking at something.  Remembering the conversation we just had outside;  innocently, are sweet little Emerson looked up from her toys to us and said,

"Is Santa Claus here?"

Not yet sweetheart, but soon....VERY SOON!!

My Toys
If you haven't read my previous "A New Puppy" blog, you might want to do that before reading this (or it might not make much sense to you).

Today, as we were getting ready to go out and do some shopping, Emerson stopped Danny and I on the stairs.

Emerson: I want to go to Grammy's house!
Danny: I think we will go there later today, but we are going to go shopping now.  Why do you want to go to Grammy's house?
Emerson: I want to play with my toys!
Brooke:  What toys?
Emerson: My toys!
Danny: What toys do you want to play with?
Emerson: (head to the floor, looking out of the top of her eyes, with a slight sly grin) BRUTUS!!

Big Bird
Yesterday, Emerson and I were upstairs when she went into her room to get a book.

Emerson: Mommy, I gonna go get my Big Bird book.
Brooke: Okay, who is Big Bird, Emerson? (i know who it is, but wanted to see what she would say)
Emerson: (with a very authoratative voice) Mommy, Big Bird is Elmo's brother!!

Emersonisms

Two new Emersonisms for everyone to enjoy (read, laugh at):

A New Age Santa List
Saturday night we went to dinner with Mimi and Birdie and then we headed to Sam's Club to look for some Christmas garland.  While in Sam's, we checked out the toy section (which has extensively expanded for the holidays).  Emerson was going around, showing us things she wanted.  Danny told Emerson each time that he would text Santa and tell him that she wanted that particular toy, and if she was a good girl, Santa might bring it to her.  (Apparently the new rage is texting your list to Santa since they seem to have done away with the good ol' letter to Santa.) Each time Emerson would go up to a toy, Danny would ask her if she liked it and would usually get a response of yes, to which, Danny would then say, "Okay, let me text Santa."  But for one toy (funny, I don't even remember what it was) Emerson ran up to it and said, "Daddy, I really like this, will you text Santa!!"

Fun at Sam's

Car Entertainment
After Sam's, Mimi and Birdie took Emerson so Danny and I could do a bit of shopping and then we swung by and picked her up from their house.  When we went upstairs, Mimi said, "Emerson, who did we listen to on the way home?"  Emerson's response, "Jackson Michael."  We joked with her and started singing Man In The Mirror because that's what Mimi was listening to and told Emerson it was one of her favorites.  On the way home, Emerson started singing a song, low and behold, it was Man in the Mirror.  The memory of an elephant I tell ya'!!!

Emersonisms

Kids say the darndest things, right?  Yes they do, and our little Ms. Emerson is no exception being as VOCAL as she is. So, I thought I would start a new series on the blog called Emersonisms to document the funny things Emerson SAYS and DOES.  Hopefully I can look back one day and share all these funny stories with her.  Here's the first installment:

Last night as Emerson and I were finishing dinner (Danny was at the basketball game with Birdie), Emerson, still seated in her booster, pointed to her foot that was on the table.  (Yes, I said her foot was on the table...we are working on it!)

Me: Emerson, can you please take your foot off the table?
Emerson:  Mommy, LOOK!!  (pointing to the lone freckle on the top of her foot)
Me: Yes Emerson, that's a freckle on your foot.
Emerson: Mommy look at it.
Me: I see it, Emerson.  It is your freckle.  It makes your foot so pretty.  Can you say freckle?
Emerson: No Mommy....That's my SPRINKLE!!! (pointing again to the freckle)
