Wordless Wednesday: Chopsticks

This past Sunday, we met Sissy, Uncle Perfect, Alice, and Thurman at Kanki for dinner.  Emerson has been to several Japanese steakhouses before, but I've never documented her using chopsticks.  Even though they are kid sticks and "doctored" up on the end for ease of use, she really does great with them.  Certainly taking after me as Danny still can't use them.

Dishes | Frozen Banana Bites

Emerson loves bananas, but last week during a breakfast before school she only ate 1/4 of her banana.  I had recently seen frozen banana bites all over Pinterest.  So after taking Emerson to school, I came back and tried my hand at making this super simple recipe with the rest of Emerson's banana.  Emerson was so excited about her yummy treat when she got home from school and I knew we would be making these treats a lot.

So Sunday afternoon, after I got home from my girl's weekend in Charlotte, I thought it might be fun for Emerson and me to make some more frozen banana bites with some very ripe bananas.

Thanks to my mom (and her Pinterest obsession) for this cute idea to personalize a banana. 
 She knows I love a good monogram!!

Chocolate and peanut butter are keys to this recipe.  I used two blocks of Candiquik (we had it leftover from another school treat project) and one tablespoon of low fat peanut butter (another on-hand item in the pantry).


While I heated the chocolate/peanut butter mixture in the microwave, Emerson licked the peanut butter spoon;  Her favorite part!!  

I was hesitant about letting Emerson cut up the banana, but I gave her the dullest knife we had and let her go to town.  She did a great job cutting them into bite-sized slices.  

She then mixed up the chocolate/peanut butter combo until it was silky and smooth.  

We then covered the banana slices with the chocolate mixture, placed them on a plate lined with  freezer paper, and put them in the freezer for a few hours to, well, freeze!!  

I can certainly say, these little treats are the Devers new favorite chocolate snack (at least mine and Emerson's).  They are perfect when you have that small chocolate craving at night.  You can eat one or two and not feel SOOO guilty.  
We're bananas for banana bites!!!

Emersonisms: Lunchables

Tonight, as Emerson was eating her Lunchables (Yeah, I know I'm winning mom-of-the-year for that one.  But really, when your child will eat the entire thing, when on most night she will only eat three bites, then a Lunchables occasionally, especially when she asks for it, is fine.  Right?).  Anyways back to the story, tonight when Emerson was eating her Lunchables, the following conversation ensued:

Emerson: I don't want my cheese.  (as she puts a piece in her mouth)
Me: You don't?  That's the best part.
Danny: I like the crackers, they're my favorite
Emerson: You wanna know my favorite part, Daddy?
Danny: What's your favorite part?
Emerson: The pudding!!

Smart Girl!!  She's definitely her mother's child and gets her love of chocolate from me.

Official Dance Pictures

Emerson started her second season of dance this past Tuesday.  Since we didn't take classes this summer, instead opting for gymnastics, it was the first time we had been back at the studio since the recital in June.  I picked up Emerson's official group and individual dance pictures at class on Tuesday.  So cute, I loved their little outfits.  We are so excited to be dancing again and as we pulled up to the studio Emerson said, "Mommy, I'm so happy to be back at dance....we haven't been here in a long, long time!!"  That put a big smile on my face!  Here's to season two of dance.....

Facebook | June, 2011

A few months ago, my friend Amy started a series on her blog called Facebook.  A place where she could share the past months status updates and happenings.  I thought this was a great idea (especially since technology is so rampant these days), so with her permission, I am copying her idea.  I love the concept of adding all my posts, my friends comments, and the pictures I post on Facebook finally ending up on this blog for Emerson to read one day (they're usually about her anyways, right?).  I'm even going to include Danny's posts (good thing he isn't a huge Facebooker).  One of my favorite parts of Facebook is comments.  I love to see how friends and family react to status updates and pictures, so you might occasionally see the comments from my friends and family, especially the ones I want Emerson to remember.  I think it's great that even though miles away, we can still communicate with people on a minute-by-minute basis. Enjoy!!!
