Sunrise
The ONLY good thing about my preschooler waking up at the beach well before she does at home is that it affords me the opportunity to get some great sunrise pictures. On Thursday, our first morning at the beach, Emerson popped her head up at 6:00 am and said, "Mommy, it's light outside, let's go to the beach!!". Being that we didn't want to wake the rest of the sleeping house, Danny, Emerson and I got dressed, and we did just that, headed to the beach. Since sunrise technically isn't until 6:54 a.m. here at Topsail, I was fortunate enough to get some get sunrise photos. So, while I was not happy about Emerson waking up two hours before her normal 8:00 a.m. rise time, I was thrilled to be on the beach that still dawn morning with two of my favorite people. Let's just hope she goes back to normal sleeping when we get back home!!

Giving Thanks at Daycare
On Wednesday, before we headed out for a much needed mini vacay at the beach, we joined Emerson and her classmates at daycare for a Thanksgiving Feast. Emerson was excited to have her parents visit her at school and eat lunch. What a treat, right?? Emerson's class had on adorable hats, either a pilgrim or turkey feathers. They were very proud of these hats and all marched in the lunchroom with their heads held high. The other classes made their own crafts and were also very excited to show their parents. The lunch was very low key but still special. The parents all enjoyed congregating with one another and eating lots of great food. This was a great way to start our Thanksgiving weekend. Our plan was to leave right after the lunch and head to the beach with hopes that Emerson would nap on the way down, but the excitement overcame her and she serenaded Danny and I for the next three hours in the car. So, believe me when I say, we were all very ready to get to the beach for Thanksgiving!!!

Show-and-Tell #60: Leap Frog Scribble & Write
Last Friday Emerson took her Leap Frog Scribble & Write to school for Show-and-Tell. Emerson first experienced this toy with her friend Aurora. Danny and I were so impressed by this learning tool that we immediately headed to Target to buy this for Emerson. This has quickly become one of Emerson's favorite car toys. She has logged hours of educational scribbling and writing on this device. Let's hope it keeps her entertained for many more!!!

Preschool Thanksgiving Feast
Last Thursday, Emerson's preschool hosted a Thanksgiving feast for the students and their parents. The children worked really hard on preparing not only a short program for the parents, but also preparing a dish to share at the feast. The Frogs Class was in charge of making a fruit salad and they all helped prepare the salad the morning of the feast. The parents were to arrive at 11:00 am for the performance. Admittedly, I am a rookie parent when it comes to this preschool....needless to say, I should have arrived at 10:40 or 10:45 because when I arrived at 10:55, all "the good seats" had been taken and we were directed to sit on the side of the room. Not the best position for video or photography. Oh well, I learned my lesson with that one!!! All the kids did a great job singing, dancing and entertaining their parents with songs related to the season. Emerson wasn't as vocal for this performance as she was for last year's Christmas show at her daycare. I think the enormous crowd was a bit overwhelming.
All the families were asked to bring a dish to share on the feast table. I must say, there are some great cooks at that school, because the food was delicious. In fact, there are already recipes being passed around on the listserv.
We were honored to be invited to the feast and it's always a treat to see our little turkey "perform". Just one more reason to count our blessings this time of year, and believe me, Emerson is a HUGE blessing to us!!!

Two of the five songs the kids sang that day.
(I took pictures of the words because the song were too cute and I knew I would forget the words, but now we can sing them every year.)

A little post performance photo op.

The turkey hat was a favorite and I'm impressed at how long it stayed on.
Two peas in a pod....these girls are inseparable and TROUBLE when they get together!!
