Where did three years go??

It is so hard for me to believe that three years ago today, at this very moment (5:32 pm), my sweet baby girl was born and my life changed forever.  Seriously, where did the three years go??  I think I blinked and missed them. I cannot tell you how wonderful the past three years have been.  Emerson has brought so much joy to my life.  She is huggable, loveable, funny, giggly, inquisitive, bright, TALKATIVE, sweet, sometimes stubborn, full of personality (read: spit fire) and so very special to Danny and I.  Everyday she makes me a better person, and teaches me more about life than she will ever know.  I've grown up with her these past three years, and I hope I am a better person today than I was when she was born.

I've had a very hard time with this birthday.  I think three should be a milestone birthday, you know, like 16 is with driving, 18 is with voting and 21 is with drinking.  I think three should be the year you are officially not a baby anymore; we really have a full-fledged toddler now.  Believe me, I hung onto "baby" as long as I could (we just recently moved to a "Big Girl Bed"), but the time has come to say goodbye to all things baby.  No more diapers, not even pull-ups (except at night), no more bottles, no more crib....and while these are all good things, it makes me a bit sad.  With all these new exciting developments also comes some sad ones in my book, a little less snuggling, a daddy-phase that's gone on for a bit too long (if you ask me!!) and a bit more independence.  Don't get me wrong, I love to see her grow up and I love to see the little girl she is becoming, but I do miss my BABY!

So, as I write this with tears streaming, I just want you to know Emerson, you are the light of your daddy and mines eyes.  We have so much enjoyed the past three years with you.  You make us laugh daily, cry occasionally, sleep less, smile always, frown sometimes, love each other more, giggle uncontrollably, and appreciate everything that surrounds us.  You truly are a blessing to us and we can't imagine our lives without you in it.  We love you so, so much sweet girl and we can't wait to see what the next three years bring!!!

Flashback Friday - November 2009

It's Flashback Friday, Y'all!!!
(November Update)

Although we weren't very busy in November, the month seemed to fly by.  Danny had two trips in November, an overnight to Atlanta and then a 6 day trip to Anaheim, California...6 Days!!!  I think Emerson and I were ready to kill each other by the time he got home.  Danny made up for it though, he brought Emerson a Minnie Mouse from Disneyland and gave me a bunch of girl time by watching Emerson.  It did seem like a spent a lot of time with some of my favorite women this month.  I was invited to go to a girls night down in Pinehurst to attend the Festival of Trees.  I did a girls brunch with Emerson, Mimi and Betsy at Fearrington and a shopping excursion at the Durham/Orange County Junior League Holiday Market with Mimi and Betsy.  The best day of all was spending the afternoon shooting my little cutie and getting some of my favorite pictures EVER of her.  We also helped welcome a new addition to the Dever Family.  Grammy and Papa got their new puppy, Brutus.  Oh yeah, and we celebrated Thanksgiving...so I guess it was a busy month but certainly the calm before December's storm.  Here are some of the blog highlights:

I hope you can re-enjoy (or enjoy for the first time) the blog posts.

A Note about Flashback Friday
So I am caught up with my monthly pictures that I have been sharing every Friday for Flashback Fridays.  I started Flashback Fridays so that I could catch everyone up with what went on with the Devers, since I was pretty slack with this blog in the beginning.  Now that I am caught up with the monthly flashbacks, I am going to move my monthly posts to the last day of each current month.  So, for example, you will get December's monthly round of pictures on December 31st.  I obviously can't call these Flashback Fridays because they won't always occur on a Friday.  (I am not sure what to call these posts and would be happy to entertain any suggestions...Monthly Review?  The Month in Review?)  I will continue Flashback Fridays every Friday but these posts will now look back with pictures, videos, memories.  I hope you have enjoyed getting caught up with all the Dever happenings.  I have surely enjoyed getting you all, myself, and this blog caught up.

I hope you enjoy the November Pictures!!

Flashback Friday

Yes, this is a day late...my computer literally took 3 hours to upload the pictures last night, so at 11:45 pm, I called it quits.
Without further ado...Flashback Friday (a day late)!!

It's Flashback Friday, Y'all!!!
October Update

October was a crazy month for us...CRAZY!!  You know it's a crazy month when you look in your Picasa folder and the month of October has 2,816 pictures.  (Yes, my friends, your eyes didn't lie, it really did just say 2,816!!!)  Granted, some of those were from a birthday party (so not all of Emerson), some were from my "photog in crime", Amy, and some were from my mom, but for the most part, I was pretty click-happy in October for all of our gazillion outings.  Here's a recap of our October:

Note: Click on any of the subject links to take you directly to the original blog post, in case you missed it the first time, (in red) or the reference website (in green)Sorry, this post has lots of links!!

*Danny went to Vegas to help his brother and his company, SDF Strapping,  for a huge trade show.  I think it went really well, and I hear that they really WORKED the whole time.  Of course, Emerson really missed her dad but was so excited to get her Pink Presents and Monies upon his return.

*While Danny was in Vegas, Emerson and I attended Cameron's 4th birthday party.  My mom came along to take care of Emerson, so that I could get some pics of the party for Monica.

*For the past two years we have gone Pumpkin Patchin' with the Hermans, let's hope it remains a tradition.  Always a good time, and always a lot of great pictures!!!

*Picture day at school.

*Dinner with our favorite biggest losers, Ed and Heba!  (check out their new website here)

*It was a family affair as we helped set-up (Emerson got to come help) and attended Roy Williams Fast Break for Cancer that was put on by Lineberger Cancer Center and our friend, Mary Seagroves.  You can read more about the success of the event here.

*We followed the North Carolina crowd in mid October to the NC State Fair and had a blast, BOTH TIMES!  Yes, that's right, we didn't get enough the first time around with the clan that went (The Beales, The Cherrys, and The Hermans), so we went again for Round 2 later in the week with the Wisconsin Devers.

*Danny and I headed to the first ever Thursday night ESPN Primetime college football game at Carolina.  This was a big deal folks, UNC closed the campus at 3:00 pm in anticipation of a huge crowd.  Carolina unfortunately lost the game to Florida State (27 - 30).

*Another fundraiser, Danny and I were invited to attend and be the special guest of Ed and Heba at the Pay It Forward Fertility First Annual Gala.  We are now the proud owners of a Captain'sTable dinner experience at the Angus Barn, all  thanks to Danny's very quick bidding arm during the live auction.  (Although, we haven't gotten that in the mail yet, guess I need to make a mental note to check on that.)  We had a blast and even got to enjoy a tour of the Angus Barn wine cellar afterward!

*Every year, my friend/college roommate/sorority sister, Ann and I attend the A Shopping Spree sale, put on by the Junior League of Raleigh!  It's become a yearly tradition and this year was no different.  We met in Raleigh for some SHOPPING and we found some great stuff; maybe some of you will be getting Christmas presents from our adventures!!

*Another fundraiser!! This year I was lucky enough to get to help out with another famous Lineberger Cancer Center annual event....Tickled Pink (sorry, I had to do this link in pink, not green)!!! I am so happy I was able to be involved this year! (Gosh, the Devers were some philanthropic-in' fools in the month of October! We are so glad that we can give back in various ways, shapes, and forms.)

WHEW!!! and last, but certainly not least....

*HALLOWEEN!!!!  Emerson was the cutest ever ladybug this year!

Oh yeah, and one more mention, in the middle of all of this craziness, we found time to book a trip to Disney World with the Hermans, Yay!!!  Mickey Mouse and his gang have since invaded our home!  We can't wait!

I hope you enjoy the pictures from this month....
you might want to get some popcorn and a soda, because there's a lot them!!

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Y'all!!!
September Update

September wasn't TOO crazy of a month for our household; it was basically birthdays and sports for us, oh and illness wrapped up in a stomach bug first and then that little bug HIN1.  Danny had trips to Jacksonville and to Charlotte for a golf tournament.  I actually slowed down a bit at work and had time to get caught up a bit.  We celebrated Danny's birthday and Amy and Macie Herman's birthdays.  Danny and I attended the Alumni Basketball game with the Hermans.  It was pretty cool to see all our players back in one place.  We also attended the first Tar Heel Town and football game of the 2009 season with the Hermans.  Emerson had so much fun.  Here are more highlights from the month:

  • UNC Alumni Basketball Game - Amy and I both took tons of pictures.  Amy was organized enough to write a blog about it (see here), so I am deferring to her for the content of the evening (Thanks Amy).  I just got my act together enough to upload the best of my 524 pictures onto Kodak Gallery.  (Don't worry, there are only 54 on Kodak!) Click here for my pictures.
  • Softball (see here for blog) -Emerson went to one of Danny's rec softball games and had a blast.  She loved it so much that Monica sent her a glove and ball of her own.  We are working on holding the glove to catch the ball and then "pulling it in".
  • Tar Heel Town - Emerson had a great time at her first Tar Heel Town for the 2009 football game and an even better time at the football game.  (see blog post here)
  • Illness - we had two bouts of illness in September...the first (see blog) was a nasty tummy bug and the second (see blog) was this season's pandemic H1N1 flu.  She was a trooper through both of them.
I hope you enjoy the pictures from this month....only one more month to go and we will be up-to-date and then, I can really flashback! Until next week.....

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Y'all!!!
August update

August was another busy month for us.  I had two huge events at work, a 4-day national conference for NCAC and a kick-off event for one of community programs.  Danny was also busy with trips to Jacksonville (twice) and a trip to New Mexico.  I was staying busy at night putting together Emerson's clothing to sell at two consignment sales, Upscale Resale and Kidseverywear.  But the most important thing about the month of August was that i was back in full swing with my blog.....here are some of the great posts from August, in case you missed them the first time around.

I hope you enjoy the pictures from this month....

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Y'all!!!
July update

After a two week hiatus we are back and this edition is special; it's the, much anticipated, birthday edition!! So, needless to say, this Flashback Friday really has nothing to do with Danny and I (good thing we had nothing going on in July) and everything to do with Ms. Emerson. July was pretty much a slow month for the Dever's except for the week of Emerson's birthday.  We did have a great July 4th with Grammy and Papa and had some fun at their neighborhood park.  Emerson got her birthday present early this year, in the form of a big sandbox.   Thanks again to Jasper, our house builder, for making such a great sandbox.  Emerson loves it!!  We had an incident with cows at Fearrington Village and working toward getting Emerson more comfortable around cows :) !!! Emerson moved from the toddler room to the 2 year old classroom.  It was a very sad day for Mommy, Emerson did great!!  We did some bowling with the Hermans and with Grammy and Papa on two different days.  We also had some pool (baby pool, that is!!) time with Mimi and Birdie.  All-in-all, a pretty low-key July, except for, oh, that big birthday party we had.

Emerson's real birthday is July 9th but we celebrated on July 11th with a Luau party.  We had about 40 kids and adults over to celebrate the big day. Birthday planning is so fun and I tend to go overboard, go figure!!  I think the event was a huge success and I think everyone had a great time.  I was fortunate enough to have Mindy Church and Jordan Shamp of then, Mindy C. Photography (they have since changed their name to JAM Photography) take pictures.  They did an excellent job and I am so glad I have those pictures to cherish and SHARE WITH YOU!!  So, without further ado.....I give you the annual birthday slide show!! July picture link is at the bottom of the page!

Please make note, to view this slide show you will have to install the photodex installer...I had my neighbor, Amy, test it out and it only takes two seconds to install and run...then you can see the high quality version of the slide show.  If for some reason you can't get the slide show to work, email me and I will figure out a way to get it to you!!

Flashback Friday

I know everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for Flashback Friday (all 10 of our followers)!!  I must say, though, we will be on a two week hiatus from Flashback Friday, I missed last week's edition and this week has been crazy for the Dever household.  We have been to the State Fair TWICE, a deplorable FSU/UNC football game, and now, even as you are reading this, a benefit dinner and auction.  So, I promise all of you readers (again, there are only a handful of you) that I will be back next week with Flashback Friday.  Next will be the July edition, which will include Emerson's 2nd birthday (some of you have been asking)!!  Thanks to all for your continued reading....

Just so I don't disappoint you terribly...I have included a couple of flashback pictures for you!!

Flashback Friday (on Saturday)

It's Flashback Friday Y'all!!!!
(on Saturday)
June update

I really wanted to get this out to everyone yesterday, but I ran out of time.  So, here is your Flashback Friday for June on a Saturday instead of Friday.  When we last left you, the Devers had a pretty lowkey May, and June was no different.  Danny was actually in town the entire month (can you believe it?) and I was just doing some wrap-up stuff for events at work and then working on a big conference for August.  I did get sick with, what we think was, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.  I had the highest fever I have ever had at 104.2.

We got to celebrate several birthdays in the month of June: Brooke (2nd), Mimi (5th), and Grammy (12th).  Emerson also got to attend her friend Aurora's birthday at the NC Museum of Life and Science.  We love the museum and took some time to play after the party was over.

The rest of the month was very relaxed, just the way we like it.  It was, however, the calm before the birthday storm....that's right, June was Emerson's last month before her 2nd birthday (more on that next week).

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Ya'll!!!
(May Update)

After April's crazy busy month we were glad that May was a bit slower for us.  It is always nice to have lots of things on the agenda and to stay busy, but it is also so nice to have down time where there isn't much going on; May was that kind of month for us.  Danny didn't travel for work at all this month and Brooke only had 2 events.  Danny did go to a bachelor party at Ocean Isle Beach at the beginning of the month. Danny and I got to sneak away at the end of the month for the wedding of Philip, whose bachelor party Danny attended earlier in the month.  The wedding was in Mathews, Virginia.  Danny and I made a small trip out of it and stayed at The Tides Inn for some rest and relaxation.

Emerson was invited to and attended several of her friends birthday parties; Laney and Ashton (family friends), Carter (Emerson's godbrother), and Haegan (one of Emerson's friends at school).  Emerson had a blast at all of them.  She is really starting to understand and enjoy birthday parties.....especially the CAKE!!! We also celebrated Mother's Day with both sets of grandparents.

The biggest and hardest event of May was Emerson's ear tube surgery.  We decided tubes were going to be the best option for Emerson because she was having way too many ear infections.  It turned out to be a great decision because she hasn't had one since (knock on wood).  Emerson was a trooper and did great for the surgery.  I think it was harder on Danny and me than it was on her.  We hated sending her back for the surgery but it only took about 15 minutes and they were done.  The worst part of the whole thing was Emerson coming out of the anesthesia...she was so out of it.  She finally came around though and we were on our way home.  It took her a bit of time to get used to putting her "Orange Things" (ear wax) in for each bath but she is doing great with them now and sometimes even prompts me to put them in before I've had the chance to do it.

That's the Devers May in a nutshell; we hope you enjoy the pictures and until next week's Flashback.....

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Ya'll!!!!
(April Update)

Ahhh yes, another Friday for flashing back to the past.  When I last left you, on my weekly updates, we had just looked at pictures from March.  April was just as busy for the Devers as March was.  We were so excited that our Tar Heels won a National Championship.  Danny was actually here this year and got to experience the madness that is Franklin Street after the game.  It truly is a once in a lifetime (well, hopefully not) experience and any good Tar Heel fan should at least see it once.

Brooke and Danny were also very busy at work.  I was in the throes of event season with an average of 3 events a week and Danny had trips to Charlotte, Ohio, Detroit, and Jacksonville. I was also busy preparing for the Beach Ball, which is annual fundraiser I participate in for UNC's Lineberger Cancer Center.  I am the fundraising chair for the auction aspects of the event and I am in charge of securing all donations.  At times it can be rather time consuming, especially towards the end; but it is for a great cause and I love doing it!!  Brooke and Danny also celebrated their 7 year anniversary in April and, like all good tired parents with a toddler and full time jobs do, we did absolutely nothing.  Maybe we did dinner, I don't really remember; I guess we need to get better at celebrating things like that!!!

Emerson was also a very busy little girl this month and April was all about having fun.  This is the first year, Emerson really got to enjoy Easter.  She still didn't quite understand the concept of the Easter Bunny but she loved finding eggs.  She had an Easter Egg hunt at her school that the parents were invited to attend.  So I headed out to take some pictures of all the fun.  (This was also picture day at school....Emerson didn't do so well and refused to get her picture taken.  Let's hope this Fall goes a bit better).  Emerson was visited by the Easter bunny and loved getting all her goodies.  I think there is a picture, that you will see, of her face when she came down that morning....it was classic!!  We also did a great Easter Egg Hunt in our yard with our neighbors, The Hermans.  I think the girls really enjoyed it and I am hoping we make it a yearly tradition.  More fun continued at Ivie Herman's third birthday party.  Ivie had the Party Bus come for her party...it looked like tons of fun but Emerson was still a bit weary, so she watched from the sidelines.

April was also an unfortunate month for Emerson.   We had been battling ear infections since about January and we were told by our doctor that Emerson would have to get tubes, so we had our consultation with the doctor and made our appointment for May....more on that next month.

So that was April in a nutshell....I hope you will enjoy the pictures and until next week.....

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Ya'll
(March update)
The last time we left you for Flashback Friday, we had just updated you on our February adventures (although, there weren't that many). March was a bit busier for our family. Danny had to travel to both Dallas and Boston and I was pretty heavy into my event season. I was also very busy preparing for Beach Ball ( a fundraiser for Lineberger Cancer Center that I am the auction chair for). Emerson and I took a trip to Burlington to have lunch with Monica (Emerson's god-mother) and her boys, Carter and Cameron (Em's god-brothers). I also took my first stab at consigning some of Emerson's clothing (Danny was so happy to get them out of the house). I took them to a consignment sale called Upscale Resale that happens twice a year. I was actually pretty successful for my first time. For the most part though, our March was spent in front of the television rooting on our Heels during March Madness. April brought them the best victory ever but that's for next week's flashback, right!!!
March Pictures Enjoy and until next week.....
Also check out my Flashback video of the week.....Emerson saying her animal sounds.

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Ya'll!!!!
(February Update and Football Games)

In honor of UNC's first football game for the 2009 season, I am flashing back to Emerson's football game experiences.

This first set of pictures was taken at her first football game, when she was only about 3 months old. We didn't make it for the entire game but she did enjoy the time she was there and even watched all the action pretty intently.

Emerson's second Football game was last fall. It actually wasn't even the game, we just went to Tar Heel Town. Emerson had a blast running around and dancing with Ivie (check out the Tar Heel Dance video from my November Update). We will certainly frequent Tar Heel Town a lot this year.

Now for the actual important content of this Flashback Friday; the February update.  We last left you with January pictures and our fun January adventures. February was a short and quick month for The Dever's. Danny only had 3 trips in February to Atlanta, Virginia, and New York. We didn't have a very busy month, hence the reason the pictures were pretty light.

Enjoy and until next week.....

Flashback Friday

It's Flashback Friday Ya'll!!!!!
(January Update)

Sorry there wasn't a post last week...I took a week off from Flashback Friday-ing to go to Charlotte and spend time with Danny, his brother (Ed), our sister-in-law (Diane), and our nephew (Corey)....Along with some other crazy cats, you all know who you are.  I also got to see my dear friends Ginger and Laurel Anne.  So, it was totally worth taking the time off of blogging.  Anyways we are back in the swing of things this week with our Flashback.  We last left you with all (sorry about that !) our pictures from December.  Now we are moving onto January and some fun adventures.  This month's pictures include:

*Some good times with our neighbors and dear friends, the Hermans - you will see their girls Ivie and Macie

*Emerson practicing eating with a fork

*The first snow storm of the season- I think this was only one of two or three that we had all year, and it was by far, not a "storm" at all. Also, check out my blog post from the 2nd snow of the season.

*Emerson and Ivie's first sleepover - Ivie's parents had to go out of town unexpectedly and so we kept her for the evening.  It was all fine until she had to sleep in our "very scary" guest room....(also, ignore Emerson's eye in those pictures, it was just before an ear infection and she had a very swollen and inflamed eye).

    Flashback Friday

    It's Flashback Friday Ya'll!!!!
    (December update)
We just finished sharing the November pictures with you guys and now it's time for December. December was a crazy month for us, as you can imagine and there are a lot of pictures. One reason is because of the time of year and it is just a great time for pictures. The other reason is because Mommy got her Christmas present early....a new camera. Let the picture taking begin. December's pictures include: Christmas Card photo shoots, Brooke and Danny's trip to Hollywood, random shots trying out the camera, Christmas Eve at the Dever's, Christmas Day at home and at the Bandy's, and our family trip to Topsail Island. You will also see the photo shoot of our annual picture with "Santa Claus"....Emerson wouldn't go near a Santa at the mall this year so we had to get one of Daddy Santa. Until next Friday.......!!!
    Enjoy!!!

    Chapter 11 Blogruptcy

For a long time now, several of my blog readers (not that there are many of you) have asked the question "when are you going to post another blog?" This is a very valid question because as some of you may recall I started this blog with all intentions of updating it on a regular basis and really making this a vehicle for people to stay up-to-date with the Devers (those of you that wanted to). Well, that hasn't really happened, hence, the last blog was on March 2nd and before that it was November 3rd. As you can imagine jobs, a one year old, friends, family, charity, and pretty much life got in the way. But, I shouldn't use that as an excuse...so I am officially starting over (new blog look and all). I am officially filing for and declaring Chapter 11 blogruptcy. I am wiping the slate clean. Emerson just turned two on 7/9/09 and now is as good of time as any to start blogging and really keep it up since there will be so many fun stories to tell. So I am not stressing myself out about trying to update you on the last 8 months. The months that I missed are a wash (for you guys, at least) and those stories and events will be etched into my brain as a memory. I will however, post pictures (a request from several readers; again, not many of you) of the months everyone has missed. But I am making a promise to myself, to my friends, family and to my 5 followers (ha!) that I will update this blog on a more regular basis. So let this be my official declaration of CHAPTER 11 BLOGRUPTCY...and let's hope this is the only Chapter 11 I ever have to file. So, get ready to be blogundated with fun stories and adventures of the Devers with their crazy two year old. Birthdays blogs are around the corner along with picture updates. Stayed tuned for Flashback Fridays (name taken from a friend's blog) when I start flooding you with pictures from the past 8 months. Thanks to those loyal blog followers and sorry to have let you down. I am hoping this attempt won't be as febel. More to come.....
